Solving the distal extension removable partial denture base movement dilemma: a clinical report.

چکیده
T he removable partial denture (RPD) continues to be an essential prosthetic consideration in many oral reconstructions, especially when edentulous ridges posterior to a patient’s remaining teeth are to be restored. Posterior distal extension partial denture bases present a number of design challenges. Of particular concern is the equitable distribution of forces to maintain remaining alveolar ridges and teeth in an optimal state of health and to provide the patient with improved comfort and function. The distal extension RPD is subjected to vertical, horizontal, and torsional forces that may become adverse during functional and parafunctional activities. These forces, which can affect denture retention, stability, a.nd support, are often compensated for to some extent by framework and denture base design variati0ns.l Osseointegrated implants with various superstructures have been incorporated into removable complete overdenture designs in an effort to better distribute adverse forces.2-6 However, the overdenture approach has not been reported for the functional enhancement of conventional RPDs.

متن کاملA Simplified Approach for Hollowing andRetrofitting Distal Extension Partial Denture ina Patient with Unilateral Maxillectomy
The need for repairing a removable partial denture occasionally arises in clinical practice. The common causes for repair of removal partial denture include tissue changes of the residual ridge, breakage or distortion of denture components and complications that arise in the remaining teeth. Distal extension partial dentures are particularly affected as the tissue-base relationship changes over...
متن کاملThe effects of loading locations and direct retainers on the movements of the abutment tooth and denture base of removable partial dentures.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the degree and amount of movement of the abutment tooth and denture base influenced by the direct retainer of distal extension removable partial denture and the location of functional loading, then to suggest direct retainer design with minimal adverse effect and with optimum functional loading location for residual tissue. The displacement of the abutm...
متن کاملUse of distal implants to support and increase retention of a removable partial denture: a case report.
Lack of adequate support (tooth/soft tissue) results in displacement of bilateral and unilateral distal extension removable partial dentures. Placement of implants is one option for managing this problem. The aim of this report is to describe fabrication of a mandibular removable partial denture supported by 2 unilateral distal implants with locater attachments. The patient was a 70-year-old ma...
متن کاملCase Report: Implant-Supported Removable Partial Denture In A Mandibular Kennedy CL II: A Clinical Report
Abstract The implant-supported removable partial dentures should be an alternative to conventional removable partial dentures and implant-supported fixed partial prostheses when the implant’s insertion is confined by bone height and thickness. Placing a single implant in the posterior region would modify the Kennedy Class II configuration to a Kennedy Class III and increase the stability a...
